5 Mistakes to Avoid When you Choose a Bottle of Wine
What is certain is that there are always some mistakes when purchasing wine.
Here are 5 of the most common ones selected by us and the tips to avoid
them.
1- Don’t stop at the manufacturer’s brand: One of the most frequent mistakes in choosing a wine to buy is to rely solely and exclusively on the coat of arms of a “brand” or on the reputation of a producer. Our advice is to investigate, dedicate time to selection, retrieve information on various characteristics of bottles, without stopping at appearances or hearsay. There are, in fact, an excellent series of lesser-known companies and wineries capable of producing quality wines, similar to those of the most famous brands. There are real wine artisans who deserve to be discovered and considered at the time of purchase.
2- Don’t stop at the aesthetics of the label: Another common mistake, especially for the less experienced, is to base the purchase or be influenced by the beauty of the label, with all its colors, shapes and designs that are often real works of art. Of course, it could be said that the eye also wants to indulge, but what matters above all is the contents of the bottle.
3- Don’t stop at the name: The Italian denominations are a valid tool to protect and guarantee the quality and, above all, the typicality of a wine. When choosing a bottle, this parameter can certainly guide you in purchasing. But beware: not being part of a denomination is not automatically synonymous with low quality. In some cases it can be but not always. Quite the contrary, in the Italian wine market there are many labels which, although they do not have an I.G.T., D.O.C, and D.O.C.G., are of the highest quality.
4- Don’t stop at the price: Another common mistake is to associate price with quality: high price – high quality; low price – low quality. Again, this is not always the case: a very expensive wine is not necessarily better than a cheaper wine. Also consider the matter relating to those small producers who can give life to oenological pearls of great quality at a decidedly advantageous price. Of course, be wary and avoid wines with a negligible cost. DP Winery can offer a pure lineup from younger (Rieccolo Montepulciano) wines all the way to the iconic (Rieccolo Montepulciano premium).
5- Don’t stop at the usual wines: More than a mistake, an established trend: choosing the usual wine from the usual producer. Italian wine heritage is so vast and qualitative that it would be a shame not to enjoy other jewels, in addition to the ones we have always enjoyed. Of course, if a specific wine is good and you really like it, there is no reason to change but it is always better to taste something new. Don’t stop at the usual wine! Let’ s test our entire line up.
